Second Chances: Creative Caregiving Through the Arts While Living with Dementia

Locations Details: In-person Name of Venue: Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University Main Galleries 420 E Packer Ave, Bethlehem, PA 18015 Date and Time: 06/10/2025 10:00 AM Brief Description of Event: Please join United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and Age-Friendly Lehigh Valley in partnership with Lehigh University Art Galleries (LUAG) and ARTZ Philadelphia for a two-part series focused on exploring the power of the arts in dementia care. This interactive program introduces research and real-world examples of how creative expression can support the well-being of individuals living with dementia and their care partners.

This interactive session is specifically designed for caregivers and service providers who support individuals living with dementia. The session will feature a presentation that delves into the meaningful role the arts can play in dementia care. Participants will explore real-life case studies, gain valuable insights into best practices, and take part in a hands-on, arts-based experience that demonstrates how creative expression can foster connections for those living with dementia.
*To help ensure accessibility, respite care will be available for up to six individuals who request respite care tickets.

This session is thoughtfully tailored for activity providers, teaching artists, and caregivers who are interested in incorporating arts-based interventions into their work. Participants will take part in a facilitated, reflective discussion in the gallery space, where they’ll explore how visual art can spark meaningful dialogue and connection. Following the discussion, attendees will engage in a hands-on, art-making activity designed with inclusive adaptations to support a wide range of abilities and experience levels.
